OChRe reader is a simple OCR (optical character recognition) app. That means it translates pictures and camera information into characters. It is optimized for English and Swedish. It is intended primarily as a tool for the visually handicapped as an aid to read texts. It works with VoiceOver, but it speaks the rows if you press them in normal mode.
The app is useful for anyone who needs to convert text from images, and then exporting them to e-mail, facebook, messages or whatever you want. There is a simple text editor to correct those misreadings that will appear.
If VoiceOver aid is used, the results will be presented as lines on the image where the user is able to feel its way, to hear what and where in the picture the text appears. There will also be an info button that tells you which text is largest, and how many lines there are in total.
Take a photo about 10-15 cm distance from the text, preferably without the flash. If the text becomes too small in the picture, the end result will not be good. The app can handle the most common fonts, but it can not handle handwritten text.
